[ it's pretty late, which would be odd, but sleeping has always felt weird in the eternal night; losing track of time is simple, which he's done a lot of lately. rather than being safely tucked into bed, he's been sitting in their "common area" sorting through photos in the light of his lantern. ]
[When they'd been at home, before all of this, late nights had been typical for Noctis. Staying up late and sleeping in even later was just the way his body seemed to want things. Here was no different. Except instead of staying up playing video games he was laying in the darkness writing notes on his tablet.]
Dude, it's me What's up? Having a hard time sleeping?
right right the prince of sleep is awake you got me 😝
but yeah i guess i was just going through some pics thinking about home and other stuff
[ there's a long pause before he says anything else, staring hard at the pics on his camera and practically aching from the sight of them. back home, he'd started looking at them sometimes when he felt homesick or lonely, but after a while, he couldn't bring himself to do it. not when it meant remembering that noct was gone and the world was a hellscape. ]
[There were plenty of places in the Village that weren't occupied and for this occasion, Ignis decided to make use of one of them before ferry with new people arrives. While they spend a lot of time eating the cake with the others in a light, festive mood of Noct's birthday, Ignis does want a few moments just with Noct. He did order him a present from Rastus a month ago and he was more than eager to finally hand it over. Especially with the recent events, Ignis is hoping that it will cheer Noctis up somewhat.
Later, when the time is shifting to what they could call 'evening' in this dark place, Ignis comes to find Noctis in his room, a small brown bag in one hand. There's a light knock on the door.]
[For being dead, it had actually been a pretty good birthday. There were no fancy gifts, no elaborate dinner to be had. Just him and undoubtedly the three people who loved him most. They had used all of their lanterns to light up the living room, had sat around and ate the amazing meal that Ignis had prepared for them. Followed by a gorgeous cake that he wasn't even aware had been baked. Everything seemed so light, almost joyous. All four of them together, talking and drinking and eating. All that was missing was Gladio.
And them being alive. That would have been nice too.
It was getting late - if time in this place could ever be called such a thing. Noctis had passed out somewhere after the cake and right before his completely finishing his third glass of wine. But the light knock followed by Ignis' voice cut through the pull and tug of sleep and had him pushing himself up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and running fingers through his messy hair. When the door opens he's smiling, despite the fact that he still looks half asleep and completely disheveled.]
[One- old habits die hard, he'll knock even if they are to turn 80 years old together; two- Noct looks cute with messy hair like that and completely disheveled. Ignis smiles and pushes some of the bangs out of Noct's face.]
I didn't want to interrupt you if you were in middle of something, but it seems I only woke you. I'm sorry. [He presses a short kiss to Noct's forehead.]
There was something I wanted to show you, so I was wondering if you would indulge me for a few hours.
[The house in question is not too far away from here, so they should be back to their rooms in no time. Perhaps a little after midnight, unless Noct gets stubborn and demands they stay at that other house for the night because he got too sleepy.]
Noctis, when you get a moment, I was hoping that we could go for a little walk.
[ The party may be over, but it doesn't mean that she doesn't want a little one on one time with the birthday boy. Besides, she's got a little something for him... it's not much, but she's doing what she can in this place. ]
[All he wanted was to spend time with all of them for his birthday. It was his single biggest wish, and all of them had made it come true. It was more than he could ever have dreamed of.]
anything for me, hm? That's dangerous and you should think long and hard before saying something like that Yes, see you in a moment.
[ And in Luna's hands are a basket of night bloomingflowers. She's had to really scour this place to and fro, and these are the prettiest ones that she could find, honestly.
It's a girly gift, but Noctis has never seemed to mind when she's gifted him with flowers before. ]
[Ignis doesn't know the details. He's not even sure if he wants to know them. All that's on his mind right now is Noctis' injuries that he got from the incident with the ferry.
He's by the stove, waiting for the water to boil so he can make some rice porridge, while also preparing some tea. There's a box of medical supplies on the table- some bandages, cloths, painkillers, and there are ice packs for the swelling in the freezer. He put the lid on the porridge and lowers the stove's temperature, then grabs the ice and medical kit and heads to Noct's room.
Their healing magic is not like before, and he will have to tend to Noct's wounds in a regular way. He enters the bedroom and closes the door with a nudge of his foot- he knows Noct's not asleep- he didn't get a decent hour of sleep from the pain.]
How are you feeling? [Ignis asks, a bit stiffly, as he places the items on the free side of the bed, preparing them for use.]
[Unfortunately, Noctis is, in fact, still conscious, despite all attempts to be otherwise. Laying face down in the soft cradle of their mattress didn't seem to do anything to actually alleviate the ache that healing had done nothing to touch. He's aware that Ignis is the very definition of 'not pleased', but at the moment he's honestly in too much pain to really care.
Briefly, he lifts his head just enough to see just who's decided to disturb him his not-rest, before letting it fall back down onto the pillow with a groan.]
Awful. [One bright eye is visible under the fall of stark black hair, the other hidden by the pillow his face is smashed down into. It's wide and glassy with the pain, and there's something almost pleading in it.] Come to yell at me for my recklessness?
[It really is unfortunate that Noctis is still awake. He needs to sleep and recharge otherwise he will be exhausted all the time.
As if placed on the automatic, Ignis wraps the bag with ice in the bandages and walks over to the other side, where the major bruising is. He pushes Noct's shirt up, tugging the sheets down a bit too, and places the makeshift ice packet over the huge swelling.
He's trying his best to look stern and unmovable, but there's explicit worry in his eyes as he stares down at his hand that's holding up the packet.]
I want to. Because it feels as if I've been giving all the warnings and advice off into the void or at the wall, instead of a person.
[But he knows why he did it which is why he can't get properly angry with him.]
[After a day of dual sulking, Ignis walks into the house with circles under the eyes. He makes himself some coffee and hot chocolate for Noct because, no matter of what Noct accuses him, he loves cooking for him. He goes to Prompto's room (because Noct said he will be there) and knocks gently.]
[Noct is pretty sure he knows who's knocking. He's also pretty sure he doesn't want to actually answer. But the current options available to him are pretending to be asleep or asking who it is and then telling Ignis to go away.]
[After not hearing the bouncing of Prompto to come over and open, Ignis lets himself in, knowing that it's just Noctis inside. He closes the door with a heel and walks over to put the mug on the side table, next to the bed where Noct's lying.]
[Ignis peers into their shared room, wondering if Noct is finally dressed. They had planned to go see those fireworks that Robin said will go off soon. And while they aren't going to be as spectacular as they usually are, it will be a nice sight, a bit of color in this constantly dark sky.
He packed them some things to snack on, figuring he could turn this little excursion into a small picnic. There's always an empty spot a bit off from the dock where no one will disturb them and they can sit and watch the sky.]
[It wasn't that Noctis intended to take so long getting ready. Honestly, it wasn't as if he were typically very high maintenance at all. But, in true fashion, he had fallen asleep sometime that afternoon and had woken up precisely five minutes before when he and Ignis had agreed to leave. Which meant he had spent at least three of those minutes rushing around the room trying to gather everything up and the other two trying to make himself presentable.
As it turns out, brushing your teeth while pulling on jeans wasn't as easy as it looked. Which Ignis had, somehow, just narrowly missed him doing. As it was he was in the middle of tugging on a fresh t-shirt before reaching for a surprisingly thick hoodie.]
Two more minutes, Specs. Just gotta - [Slipping said hoodie over his head in the middle of a sentence was probably rude, but he was doing it anyway.] - find my boots.
[Ignis wouldn't rush him, if it weren't for the fireworks. He just doesn't want them to be late for them and miss out on the beginning. It will be nice to see a little bit of color in the sky, that's for sure.
He gives Noct a smile when he listens to him and pulls the hoodie on.]
The boots are by the entrance door. Our shoes were muddy so I cleaned them.
[If he's going to clean his own, he might as well clean Noct's too while he's at it.]
