[Noctis currently had one single eye open a fraction, a tiny sliver that was barely visible beneath his lashes. Just enough to see and not bump into anything as he made his way into the kitchen.
Those were tacos he smelled.
His eyes open just a little more as he comes around the island, pressing up onto the balls of his feet and presses and sweet kisses to Ignis's lips.
Okay, so he thinks they're his lips. It might actually be his chin, but it's close.]
Morning.
[It's muffle and full of sleep, but as he makes his way around the island and perches on one of the barstools, it's clear he's at least awake enough to eat.]
Have I ever told you that you're the best boyfriend ever? [It's spoken in between bites, because honestly nothing is making him put this taco down.]
[Ignis 'helps' him out by leaning forward a bit and making those kisses actually connect. For all the complaints and groaning in the morning, Noct can be pretty cute and sweet like this.
Or maybe that's just because of tacos. He'll never know.
He joins him at the island, taking a seat opposite of him and a good sip of coffee.]
You have. [Right now. And yes, he's smiling into his cup.] I promised tacos, didn't I? I hate when I don't keep a promise. [Especially to Noct.]
You did. [How a person could possibly be as asleep as he currently is and still manage to feed themselves as well as he is right now is actually pretty impressive.
Distantly, he can hear his phone ringing on the floor of his bedroom and ignores it.]
Hey Iggy, do me a favor? Change my phone number. And don't give it to Gladio.
There will be no 'phone yeeting', Noct. [Ignis takes another sip of coffee, going through his own phone and reading news; just checking if anything important happened overnight.]
I would have to report that you lost your phone and you would get a new one on the same day. You remember the rules His Majesty and The Council set up when they allowed you to live outside the Citadel?
[Good grades, send reports reviews and always be available for a phone call.]
[He wants to argue that Ignis can't report what he doesn't know about.
Except even if Noctis hadn't just told him, he would know. Iggy always knew everything.]
I don't remember 'no yeeting you phone into a lake' being one of them. [It was probably in there somewhere, honestly. He hadn't really been paying that much attention.]
I just want one day where I don't have to be a prince and I can just be Noctis, you know?
I assure you it was, but it wasn't phrased that way.
[Ignis takes a deep breath, knowing where Noctis is coming from with that question, and seriously wishing he can help more than just freeing up Noct's schedule.
It doesn't help that Ignis himself is a reminder of things that are to come for Noct in the future. Can't forget you are a prince when you are staring daily into your own advisor.]
It probably won't help much, but I can try to free your schedule for the weekend, should you want to hang out with Prompto.
[Sometimes it was easy to forget that Ignis wasn't just his boyfriend. That technically, there was a very important role that he was meant to play in all of this.
It was like torture. Wanting to be around him so much, and yet the very sight of him was a constant reminder.]
[Prompto had the freedom with Noctis that Ignis will never have. Just being his boyfriend (or was he? it's hard to tell when it's forbidden), is already pushing boundaries at their seams.
So, in a way, he relates to Noctis and his wish to just be himself. Ignis can't remember last time they were just 'them'. Feels like a distant memory right now.
Ignis nods-]
I will see with the tutors today to reschedule your weekend material.
[Just being themselves wasn't a luxury that they were ever going to be afforded. Never for more than a few precious moments at a time. When they could be together like this, alone. But even then there were obligations pressing in, weighing dow on them.
He could hear one now, the sound of his phone ringing against as he sighed, slipping from his chair and grabbing his plate to bring it around to the sink.]
You know, Prom doesn't have to come over until Saturday. I could be free Friday night. If someone else was.
[They will always be there, despite Ignis trying his best not to bring them up. He always tries talking about mundane things like school, homework, arcade, whether the pastries he made were close to the ones he ate or no. He only ever brings up Citadel work when he has to. Because he was asked to.
Ignis finishes off his coffee and goes to the sink to wash the plate and the mug.]
I suppose I could find some time to drop by and prepare you guys some snacks. [...] Perhaps give it another go at those pastries.
[Noctis waits until Ignis is busy washing up to step in behind him, wrapping his arms about his waist and resting his head between his shoulder blades since he wasn't tall enough to peak over them.]
You're too good to me, Iggy. How can I ever repay you?
[Ignis' lips twitch when he feels hands wrap around him. He finishes up washing the dishes and dries off his hands so he can place them atop of Noct's.]
Well, those reports won't read themselves. There's plenty of time until Friday.
[He's half teasing, half being serious. He turns around in Noct's embrace so he can place both of his hands on his cheeks, rubbing his thumbs over the cheekbones.]
Just be yourself. That's enough of a payment for me.
[All it takes is glancing up into Ignis' eyes and he's completely lost, willing to do absolutely whatever he says. Even read a thousand stupid reports about things he cares nothing about.]
If you say so, Iggy. [Lifting himself up just enough to close the space between them, he presses the softest kiss against those lips, before whispering against them:] Love you.
[And then he's wiggling out of the embrace because he still has to go get dressed.]

[Although, Gladio could chill from time to time if Ignis has anything to say about it.]
If I change your number, I have to tell your Father. And your father will inform everyone else important, including your Shield.
[It's a battle you can't win.]
Finish breakfast and I'll drive you to the Citadel.

And then accidentally yeet this one into a fountain.
[Because he will absolutely do it.]
That should buy some time, right?

But he knows Noct needs some space to breathe and he won't be able to do that with either Gladio or himself around.]

But in the end, Prompto was the one who looked at him like he was just Noctis, and not just for right now, just for this moment.]
Thanks, Iggy. I'd really like that.
