CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Noctis Lucis Caelum
Age: Twenty
Canon: Final Fantasy XV

World Description: Eos @ FF Wiki

History: Noctis @ FF Wiki

Death: Noctis will be killed during his trial with Leviathan.

In the events of the games, while he is knocked unconscious and does suffer some pretty severe wounds, he is ultimately healed by Lady Lunafreya and eventually found by his friend and adviser Ignis Scientia.

Instead of those events taking place, Noctis will instead be wounded beyond saving, having spent all of his energy trying to defeat Leviathan to prove himself worthy of forming her covenant. Upon leaving Amirger he will collapse back down onto the Alter of the Tidemother and die upon impact.

What are your plans for this character in-game? During the events of the game, Noctis feels a lot of survivors guilt surrounding the fact that so many people have sacrificed themselves entirely for him, Couple that with the fact that, realistically, he should have died multiple times, and you're let with a ball of emotion.

I would absolutely love to explore ways for him to start moving past that - to realize that it's okay that he lived for as long as he did, and that he didn't really let anyone down by dying. The chance for him to be happy, even in a place like this, is something I would absolutely love to work up to.

There is also the fact that Noctis has never really gotten to just be Noctis, always having the expectations of being a prince and future king place upon him. It would be really interesting to see what happens when that's stripped away and he can finally just be himself.

What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? Hands down, the darkness.

I love the idea of it always being dark - it's actually a concept that happens in Noct's canon, although he doesn't get to experience much of it. Working within the confines of having little to no light while trying to survive really interest me, especially when it comes to how it's going to affect different scenarios and make things more challenging. It's just a super cool concept that I've never seen before.

How does your character generally get along with other people? Upon first meeting, Noctis comes across as standoffish, almost cold. He's not exceptionally good at interacting with people, but that doesn't mean he has a problem with doing so. He can actually talk to people pretty easily, and never really gets overly flustered about it until, during one conversation, he's teased about the possibility of flirting.

However, once you get to know Noctis, you find that's not really what he's like at all. He has great compassion and empathy and will go out of his way to help his friends. He's actually very kind, and will trade snarky sarcasm and well intention teases as a way to show he cares.

All of that said, he does tend to generally get along with people pretty easily, considering he has, by default, a pretty calm and passive demeanor. Nothing really seems to bother him and he shrugs things off pretty easily. This leads to being able to make connections with relative ease.

What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? Not good.

It's at this point in canon where Noctis begins to withdraw in on himself and there's a lot of fighting between him and Gladio because of the selfish way in which he handles his own suffering while forgetting about everyone else's. Losing Luna and having Ignis become blind and not being strong enough to do anything to help either of them well and truly messes with him, to the point where he has what could definitely be called a breakdown.

Dealing with those emotions while also being dead himself is going to definitely leave him teetering on the edge.

Skills/Abilities:

Note: Most of these produce light - a blue, shimmering light that isn't particularly bright when in the sun, but would definitely allow you to see in the dark. Therefore, all of that will definitely be entirely nerfed.

Armiger:
Armiger | Royal Arms

As an heir in the line of Lucis, Noctis has access to a sort of magical hammerspace which can be used to store basically anything - from his own weapons to those of his teammates, he even keeps his fishing gear and chocobo whistle inside. It also serves as storage for the royal arms, weapons used by previous kings in the royal line that Noctis can call forth any time.

Beyond being a magical storage locker, it also allows Noctis to perform special moves - empowered by the spirits of his ancestors, he's capable of calling crystalline versions of all thirteen royal arms forth and use them in rapid succession. During this time, he can also use something called Armiger Chain, which allows each member of his party to briefly wield a royal arm and attack alongside him.

Noctis is also briefly shown - during his battle against Leviathan and Ardyn - to use a different form of Armiger, wherein he floats in the air while the royal arms float in a circle around him. During this time he is able to dash and block incoming attacks while sending the weapons flying forth to delivery devastating blows while remaining in place himself.

This is also where all potions and healing items are stored, such as Pheonix Downs. Using the royal arms also eats away at Noctis' HP.

(While he will be able to use Armiger, it will produce no light upon summoning anything from it. He also will no longer be able to use or call forth any of the royal arms, since they are especially powerful.)

Summoning:

As the chosen king, Noctis has been granted the favor of the gods and given the ability to summon them to his aid in battle. During this time his eyes glow a bright red instead of their normal clear blue, and his allies disappear from the field as the attack is unleashed. Only enemies are damaged by this, leaving Noctis in whatever state he was in before summoning. This does take a lot of energy, however, and so he only tends to do it when he needs to turn the tides of battle. At the point he's being taken from, he has Titan, Ramuh, and Leviathan - none of which he'll actually be able to use in game.

(Will also be completely nerfed, since in the game this can basically destroy even some of the strongest enemies and definitely makes Noctis pretty overpowered and gives him an unfair advantage.)

Warping:

Noctis can also perform a move known as warping, which basically allows him to teleport over short distances with the use of a weapon. This includes warp-strikes, which is performed by warping at an enemy to deliver an attack; warp-points, in which the weapon transport to a center point, normally slightly off the field of battle. Sometimes this will be a high point, wherein Noctis will hang from the weapon, or a flat nearby surface. Doing this recovers all MP, and also allows him to recover a small amount of HP over time.

(Will also produce no light and will be severely shortened to only ten feet or so in length.)

Again, as an heir to the line of Lucis, Noctis has the power craft spells - fire, ice and thunder, to be exact. After crafting they are placed into a magical flask, and he is then able to give them to his friends to be wielded.

(Since there are no sources to gather any of these things, Noctis will only have what he currently has in his inventory. Also, fire and lightning will produce absolutely no light.)

Combantant + Healing:

Noctis is an excellent combatant, having been trained for most of his life (mostly by Gladio), he's quick and agile, two of his biggest strengths. Despite his small size he can hold his own and lead the charge.

He can also heal his allies in battle, giving them a small amount of HP and bringing them back into the fight. (Will also produce zero light, and will only work about half as well as it normally would)

Flaws/Weaknesses:

Noctis is reckless and often doesn't stop to think before acting. He sometimes as a bit of an ego, which can occasionally make him overconfident. He is also stand offish and has a bit of a resting bitch face, which means that he doesn't always come off as the friendliest, or the most approachable.

Noctis weaknesses don't just stem from parts of his personality, but also from his upbringing. As a crowned prince, Noctis was sheltered for most of his life, with only really the time spent on the road with his friends as any real-world experience. This affects the way that he deals with people, and also makes him a bit self-centered , something that doesn't really mix well with trying to make friends. He complains, a lot, about almost everything, and that can be a bit annoying to anyone who doesn't know what he's like underneath.

When he was eight, he was involved in a daemon attack which left him with a slight limp to his left leg, stemming from the knee. This is a weak point for him, and you can see how it starts to give or the limp because worse or more pronounced when he's tired, or after a particularly long and hard fought battle. Despite this, he still flings himself around the battlefield like gravity doesn't exist.

Prompto, Ignis, Gladio and Luna are his biggest weaknesses. Never does he display anger until any of them are in danger, hurt or even killed. It's only then that his cool demeanor really cracks and he becomes emotional and even more rash. When Ardyn tricks him into knocking Prompto from a moving train, he goes through literal hell to find him. Luna may very well be the biggest point of weakness, especially after her death, when he feels as though he failed her for not being there when she needed him most.

Personality:

Noctis begins exactly as one might expect a prince who has been sheltered and overprotected all of his life: bratty. Being the crown prince of Lucis means that, in many ways, he's been kept away from the normal things one might experience, leaving him with pretty poor interpersonal skills. To the point where he comes off an uninterested or even cold to those who don't know him well. To say that Noctis isn't good with feelings, especially his own, is a vast understatement. He often struggles to get out exactly what it is he wants to say when the moment calls for it, which often leaves him looking like he doesn't care.

He's enthusiastic about the things he likes and can often display a bit of an inflated ego. He knows what he's good at, and isn't afraid to make those skills known. He's exceptionally playful, especially with Ignis, Prompto and Gladio, sharing ribs and comebacks throughout their journey. The four have a sort of camaraderie that thrives on good-natured teasing. He's often sarcastic, or even snarky towards them, but in truth he cares for them deeply. That's just his way of showing it.

He also complains. A lot. About everything. They have to walk somewhere? Gonna complain. It's too hot? Gotta whine about it. It's his favorite past time right behind sleeping.

Self-centered is a really good word to describe him. It's not that he only cares about himself - it's that he only cares about things that might benefit him in some way for quite some time. He only sees himself in a lot of things and doesn't take the time to think about how other's might be affected.

Underneath all of that Noctis is actually a kind, compassionate person, who often goes out of his way to help people - getting parts for Cindy, running errands for Takka and finding dog tags for Dave. Sure he acts like he doesn't care and it's a chore, but he really doesn't mind.

Noctis' three friends, Ignis, Prompto and Gladio aren't royalty, with Prompto even being a 'commoner', but he treats them all exactly equal, never putting himself above them or acting like he's something special just because he's a prince. While they do often confer to him to make decisions, he still doesn't act like he's something special. The title of prince means very little to him. He wants and desires to be just like everyone else, and so he treats people as he wants to be treated.

Later in the game, Noctis is dealt emotional blow after emotional blow, and for a while, he does not handle it well at all, becoming extremely self-centered and closes in on himself. He doesn't share his grief with those he's close to, choosing to shoulder the burden entirely alone - even when it's to the detriment of others. Selfish is a good word to describe how he acts during this period, only really caring about himself. In truth, he fears losing those who are close to him, and now lost both his father and Luna, and very nearly having Ignis taken from him is far more than he can take.

Noctis is exceptionally strong in that quiet, aloof way, but he also holds a lot in and when it all comes out, it sort of explodes.

However, he does snap out of it, and even goes on to gain a new sense of confidence, finally stepping into his role of leader and actually acting like one.

To say that his friends are his power is a cheesy statement, but it's true. When he finally gets over himself enough to realize that Ignis is hurting from suddenly being blind, he starts trying to help him more and be more attentive. He goes through hell to find Prompto when an incident with Ardyn leaves him missing and in danger. Gladio is able to snap him out of it and give him confidence and renewed vigor.

Noctis gets annoyed, certainly, but he never really gets truly angry until his friends and Luna are in danger. Especially after the incident with Prompto on the train, he gets so incredibly angry and upset that he actually has what could be called a breakdown. This is, in a lot of ways, a turning point for him, where he stops being such a bratty prince and starts being the king that his friends believe him to be that his home needs.

Other interesting or important tidbits include: Noctis hates vegetables and often refuses to eat healthy at all. He hates mornings and will do absolutely anything to get out of having to endure waking up for them. He loves animals, especially chocobos. He spends a ridiculous amount of time playing video games and is apparently super good at them.
